About the Role
Our buildings You will undertake planned and reactive property maintenance across SDT sites ensure that all our buildings and spaces are safe, welcoming, efficient, compliant and well-presented.
Working with the Maintenance & Facilities Lead, you will be a key member of an effective and well-motivated team. Alongside our operations team of cleaning staff, customer assistants, contractors and volunteers, you will be responsible for ensuring our buildings are ready for community use all year round.
You will take satisfaction in making a difference for our customers. As a visible and pro-active member of the team, you will build meaningful relationships and know that good communication and trust is just as important at getting a repair job done.
You will prioritise a variety of maintenance tasks, understanding the challenges of our aging buildings, making sure that risks are managed, and that every penny counts.
You will take pride and be celebrated for solving problems for others; helping the whole charity grow its positive impact locally.

- Salary: £25,964 – £29,239 per year depending on experience
- Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week

- Holiday: 33 days annual leave (inclusive of Bank Holidays)

Key Responsibilities
- Undertake planned and reactive maintenance, diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs and improvements across Trust properties.
- Support safe and compliant operations by carrying out routine inspections, maintenance and compliance checks, maintaining accurate records and acting on identified issues.
- Build positive relationships with staff, customers and contractors, providing excellent customer service.
- Coordinate contractors to ensure safety, quality, timescales and value for money are achieved.
- Manage maintenance stock, materials and waste, ensuring safe storage and efficient use of resources.
- Monitor the condition of Trust buildings, identify risks and future maintenance needs, and contribute practical insight to maintenance planning.
- Identify and propose ways to improve sustainability, accessibility and building performance through effective maintenance and repair.
- Undertake lone working within occupied premises and/or working outdoors in all weathers and completing physically demanding work.
- Play an active role in site security, managing keys and access.
- Have a flexible working approach including working occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience in property maintenance, with good knowledge of maintenance techniques, materials, equipment and safe working practices.
- Health and safety qualification or equivalent experience, including the application of safe systems of work and risk assessments.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and solve problems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, customers and contractors.
- Basic IT skills.
- Self-motivated with drive for high standards.
- Flexible approach to work and variety of tasks.
- Willing to work indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions.
- Committed to supporting SDT’s values and community purpose.
Desirable Criteria:
- Qualification in a building trade or property maintenance discipline.
- A customer service qualification
- First Aid qualification
- City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent trade qualification.
- Experience of facilities management, project delivery or coordinating construction
- Working with volunteers.
- Strong IT skills and experience using data insight in building management.
- Knowledge of Southmead and the issues facing local residents.
- Commitment to continual professional development.
Pay: £25,964.00-£29,239.00 per year
