DEPUTY BAR & VENUE MANAGER

That's Slice. Oxford's first indoor golf simulator bar - Trackman bays, interactive darts, a properly stocked bar, and New York-style pizza that holds its own against all of it. We're based in Botley and we've had a strong start. Now we're looking for a Deputy Bar & Venue Manager to help lead the operation and deliver an exceptional experience for every guest who walks through the door.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on management role with real responsibility from day one. You'll work closely with the founders and Venue Manager to oversee daily operations, lead the front-of-house team, drive service standards, and ensure the venue runs smoothly from open to close.
More than that, we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys golf. You don't need to be a PGA professional, but you should have an interest in the game, be comfortable talking golf with customers, understand the basics of handicaps, equipment, courses and tournaments, and help create the atmosphere that makes Slice different from a standard bar.
Our customers come to play, socialise, compete, watch golf, eat great food and enjoy themselves. You'll be at the heart of making that happen.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Venue Operations
Supporting the day-to-day running of the venue, ensuring exceptional customer experiences across the golf simulators, bar, food service and events.
Team Leadership
Leading shifts, motivating the front-of-house team, helping with recruitment and training, and ensuring high standards are maintained at all times.
Customer Experience
Creating a welcoming and engaging environment, building relationships with regular customers, handling feedback professionally, and ensuring every guest leaves wanting to return.
Golf Simulator Management
Helping customers get the most from the Trackman simulators, managing bookings, supporting leagues and competitions, and confidently engaging with golfers of all abilities.
Bar Operations
Supporting stock management, ordering, wastage control and GP targets while ensuring excellent product knowledge and service standards behind the bar.
Events & Community
Helping organise and run golf events, competitions, corporate bookings and social nights that build Slice's reputation within the local golf community.
Compliance & Standards
Ensuring health & safety, licensing and venue procedures are followed consistently across every shift.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who thrives in hospitality and enjoys leading from the front.
You might currently be an Assistant Manager, Deputy Manager, Bar Manager or Supervisor looking for the next step in your career. What matters most is that you're organised, personable, commercially aware and comfortable taking ownership.
Most importantly, you should have a genuine interest in golf. Our customers love talking about the game, whether it's their latest round, equipment upgrades, upcoming majors or local courses. We want someone who can naturally join those conversations and help create an authentic golf-focused experience.
Ideal Experience
- Previous experience in hospitality management, bar management or venue operations
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities
- Experience managing shifts in a busy environment
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of stock control and GP
- Confidence dealing with customer issues and operational challenges
- A genuine interest in golf and an understanding of the game
