Location: Field-based, operating from Shipston-on-Stour and covering the Midlands and surrounding counties, with occasional UK-wide travel and overnight stays
Salary: £40,000–£45,000, depending on experience and competence
Hours: 45 contracted hours per week, Monday to Friday

Our growing Servicing & Maintenance division supports customers through planned servicing, reactive maintenance and compliance-led lifecycle support.
The role
JPD is looking for a practical and dependable Service & Maintenance Engineer to join our team. This is a field-based role servicing, inspecting, maintaining and repairing automatic gates, barriers, fire roller shutters, escape exit doors and associated access systems. The engineer may also support the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
What the role involves
- Completing planned servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Attending breakdowns and diagnosing mechanical, electrical and control-system faults.
- Carrying out safe and effective repairs within the engineer’s training, competence and authorisation.
- Supporting the installation, testing, commissioning and handover of new automatic gates, doors and barriers.
- Inspecting and testing operational components, safety devices and access-control equipment.
- Identifying and immediately escalating safety-critical defects.
- Reading and following technical drawings, wiring diagrams, manufacturers’ instructions, RAMS and site requirements.
- Configuring or programming relevant control equipment within the engineer’s training and competence.
- Completing digital job records, checklists, photographs, test results, parts records and customer sign-off.
- Producing clear service, inspection, commissioning and defect reports using JPD templates, with training, guidance and support.
- Communicating professionally with customers and the JPD office team.
- Looking after the company van, tools, test equipment and stock.
What we are looking for
Essential:
- Practical field experience servicing, maintaining or fault-finding mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience of automatic gates and associated access systems, together with experience of fire roller shutters, escape exit doors or similar equipment.
- Relevant mechanical and electrical knowledge, including safe isolation and stored-energy hazards.
- A safe and methodical approach to fault diagnosis and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturers’ instructions.
- Ability to work independently while recognising when a task is unsafe or beyond personal competence.
- Clear and professional communication with customers and colleagues.
- Ability to follow report templates and complete routine technical administration accurately.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to customer sites.
- Willingness to undertake occasional UK-wide travel and overnight stays when required.
Desirable:
- Experience supporting the installation or commissioning of automatic gates, doors or barriers.
- A relevant electrical, mechanical or electromechanical qualification, apprenticeship or vocational qualification.
- Gate-safety, force-testing, access-control, fire-shutter or fire/escape-door training.
- DHF, ADSA/ADIA, CSCS, IPAF, PASMA, first-aid or relevant manufacturer training.
- Experience using mobile field-service or job-management systems.
Candidates do not need to have worked on every type of equipment listed. Appropriate training may be provided where the candidate has strong underlying mechanical and electrical competence and a willingness to learn.
