Beacon Childcare is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Deputy Manager to support the leadership of our Children's Residential Home in Handsworth.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced residential childcare professional who is passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people. Working alongside the Registered Manager, you will help lead a dedicated team, maintain high standards of care, and ensure our home continues to provide a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for looked-after children with emotional and behavioural needs.
This role offers a balance of hands-on leadership and management responsibilities, with time dedicated to both supporting the team on shift and completing essential administrative duties.
About the Role
As Deputy Manager, you will:
- Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the home.
- Lead by example, motivating and developing the staff team to provide outstanding care.
- Complete shift work, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-ins as part of the rota.
- Undertake two dedicated administration shifts each week to support compliance, care planning, audits, and team development.
- Ensure children's care plans are implemented and reviewed effectively.
- Promote safeguarding and ensure children's welfare is always at the centre of decision-making.
- Supervise, mentor, and support Residential Care Workers and Team Leaders.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, social workers, and partner agencies.
- Assist with staff supervision, recruitment, training, and performance management.
- Support the home in achieving and maintaining high-quality standards in line with Ofsted expectations.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Residential Childcare (or an equivalent recognised qualification).
- A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a commitment to work towards achieving it.
- Previous experience within a children's residential setting, with experience leading or supervising staff.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- A child-centred approach and a passion for achieving positive outcomes.
- A full UK driving licence (automatic or manual) held for a minimum of 12 months, as driving the company vehicle is required.
- A willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check and all safer recruitment requirements.
