About the role:
The new post of Research Fellow in Motion Capture Technology is in the new BFS Future Production Lab within the Bournemouth Film School, the largest film school outside of London.
The Fellow will work with the new dual capture Mocap lab at the intersection of film production, emerging technologies, and innovation, supporting the translation of research into real-world impact across the screen industries.
They will develop original, entrepreneurial, industry driven and commercially focused research projects that are viable to achieve external funding. Projects may span areas such as virtual production, immersive media, AI, creative computing, and interactive technologies.
Beyond technical expertise, the Research Fellow will act as a catalyst for interdisciplinary innovation, bringing together expertise from across film, animation, games, design, creative technologies, computer science, heritage, performance and industry to develop next-generation production workflows.
The role requires the ability to identify emerging opportunities where motion capture technologies can be combined with AI, immersive media, digital twins, real-time technologies and interactive experiences to create new models of research, teaching, enterprise and commercial collaboration. Through strategic partnerships, external funding, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and innovation-led research, the Fellow will support the creation of sustainable ecosystems that translate academic research into measurable impact for the creative industries.
The Research Fellow will also be expected to support academic research within the BFS more widely including PhD supervision, staff research support, research groups and grant application. AUB also works closely with regional companies and the role would involve links to industry and Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) support.
Applicants must have a PhD in a field related to new and emerging film technologies, have an understanding of the film/animation industries and a strong record of research publications and grant funding.
Applicants for the Research Fellow post will join a growing group of Research Fellows at AUB and will work under the guidance of the Director of Research and Innovation, Professor Christian Mclening.
