FREELANCE STUDIO ASSISTANT – MORNING RESETS
Silent Hill Studios
Merrow, Guildford
Freelance/self-employed
Approximately 2–3 hours per week
£15 per completed studio reset
About Silent Hill Studios
Silent Hill Studios is a self-service music rehearsal facility in Merrow, Guildford. We provide four fully equipped rehearsal rooms for local bands, musicians and music teachers.
We are looking for a reliable, practical and enthusiastic Studio Assistant to complete two or three morning studio resets each week.
About the role
The purpose of the role is to check, clean and reset the studios following the previous evening’s bookings, ensuring that the building and all four rehearsal rooms are tidy, properly equipped and ready for the next customers.
Each reset is expected to take approximately one hour and must be completed in the morning before the studios’ first booking. The successful applicant will generally work independently and will be trusted with access to the building.
This would particularly suit a local musician, music student or practical person looking for a small amount of regular freelance work.
Key responsibilities
- Hoovering and tidying the rehearsal rooms and communal areas
- Emptying bins and replacing bin liners
- Returning instruments, equipment, furniture and stands to their correct positions
- Checking that all four rooms have been left in good condition
- Carrying out basic checks of amplifiers, drum kits, PA systems, microphones, cables and other studio equipment
- Completing simple equipment adjustments or minor repairs where appropriate
- Reporting damaged, faulty or missing equipment to the studio directors
- Restocking drinks, snacks and other supplies
- Highlighting any cleaning, maintenance, security or customer-related issues
- Ensuring that the building is properly secured when leaving
- Completing a brief reset checklist and providing photographs or feedback where required
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Aged 18 or over
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Able to work independently and use their initiative
- Thorough and attentive to detail
- Practical and comfortable carrying out simple equipment checks
- Able to spot and clearly report problems
- Comfortable moving amplifiers, stands and other rehearsal-room equipment
- Based locally or able to travel reliably to Merrow for short morning visits
- Ideally familiar with musical instruments, bands or rehearsal equipment
Previous music-studio experience is not essential. Some familiarity with instruments and audio equipment would be helpful, but full guidance on our room layouts, equipment and reset process will be provided.
Hours and payment
The successful applicant will usually complete two or three morning resets per week, with the specific mornings agreed in advance.
Each reset is paid at £15 and is expected to take approximately one hour. Any substantial additional maintenance or work must be agreed in advance and will be paid separately.
Contractual status
This is offered as a freelance, self-employed contractor role and not as a PAYE-employed position. The successful contractor will be responsible for managing and declaring their own tax and National Insurance.
Applicants must be aged 18 or over, as the role involves lone working, access to the premises and responsibility for securing the building.
How to apply
Please apply with:
- A brief introduction telling us about yourself
- Your location and morning availability
- Any relevant work, cleaning, maintenance or practical experience
- Any experience with musical instruments or audio equipment
- Why you think you would be a good fit for the role
