Location: UK, Field Based
Salary: £30,000 - £33,000 pa, depending on experience
As a Lead Fire Damper Engineer, you will take ownership of on-site compliance testing, inspections, and surveys. While some sites have detailed records, others will require you to trace the full ventilation system from scratch to locate, inspect, and drop-test every damper.
For our larger projects - which can span from a single day up to eight weeks or more - you will be the face of UFS on site. You will manage the daily workload, liaise directly with NHS estates managers or commercial site contacts, and handle access arrangements to ensure our teams work safely and efficiently.
What You’ll Be Doing
Carry out thorough inspections and physical drop-testing of fire dampers across schools, universities, offices, prisons, and busy healthcare environments.
Where no pre-existing building plans or damper registers exist, methodically survey the ventilation ductwork to locate and map out all fire dampers.
Access and inspect dampers safely in challenging environments, including working at height and within confined spaces.
Act as the primary on-site contact, coordinating directly with estates managers, department heads, and site personnel to secure access to restricted or sensitive areas.
Manage the daily pace of the project, aiming for a target of 40–50 dampers tested per day (depending on site complexity and available asset information).
Complete and maintain site progress sheets to log any issues or access delays, keeping the central office updated in real time.
Use our dedicated BORIS system app on a company mobile/tablet to log all works.
Capture high-quality "before and after" drop-test photos of each damper, uploading them directly to the app to generate compliant client reports.
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience inspecting and testing fire dampers. Familiarity with TR19 ductwork cleaning standards is highly preferable.
Experience managing projects and workloads on site, with the communication skills needed to liaise confidently with clients and estates teams.
Comfortable and experienced working at height and within confined spaces.
Comfortable using mobile applications and tablets (such as BORIS or similar asset management platforms) for real-time reporting.
Willingness to work a variety of shifts and travel/stay away from home on occasion when regional projects require it.
Qualifications & Requirements
Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)
Ability to pass an Enhanced DBS Check (Essential due to work in healthcare, schools, and secure environments)
Valid CSCS Card (Highly Desirable)
Confined Spaces and Working at Height certificates (Highly Desirable)
