The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria (NENC) are looking for a Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow to join the ARC team.
The ARC NENC has been awarded additional funding from NIHR to build knowledge mobilisation capacity and capability within the health and social care system to get effective treatments and models of care into practice, thereby maximising the impact of research.

To help deliver the Knowledge Mobilisation agenda in close collaboration with the NENC Integrated Care Board (ICB), we are looking to appoint a Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow to join the ARC’s core team, and work collaboratively with Embedded Knowledge Mobilisation Fellows working across the North East and North Cumbria health and care system.

The roles offer an exciting opportunity to work as part of an expert knowledge mobilisation team in the ARC NENC, and affect real change across many partner organisations within our integrated health and care system.
Post holders will have the opportunity to develop their knowledge mobilisation skills and connections by working with a range of academics, practitioners and policy makers as well as communities across the ARC.
Fellows will receive peer support via a national network of knowledge mobilisation fellows as well as from a dedicated community within the ARC’s Impact and Implementation Special Interest Group.
They will build their national networks and understanding of the wider NIHR infrastructures to position themselves for a future knowledge mobilisation leadership role within the health and social care system, and receive funded, dedicated time out from their current roles to develop knowledge mobilisation capacity and connections.
Work with colleagues across the NENC health and care system to mobilise evidence across four priority areas for the Integrated Care System (Longer, healthier lives; Fairer outcomes for everyone; Better health and care services, and; Giving our children the best start in life) aligned to the ARC's themes.
Support the benefits realisation of ARC NENC research by monitoring emerging evidence in priority policy areas (see above) and making this information easily digestible for decision makers and stakeholders.
Undertake knowledge mobilisation work in sprints (6-12 months) to inform key decisions in the health and care system, providing the right information to the right people at the right time. Sprint activity may include: rapid evidence reviews, round-table events with stakeholders and public members, identification of adoption ready research and innovation, strengthening relationships in the region, and presenting relevant evidence in the right context.
Working with colleagues in the national KM Network to identify research and innovation developed in NENC that are ready for roll-out in other regions or ready for wider adoption. Similarly, the post holder will identify adoption ready research and innovations from other ARCs and Health Innovation Networks that are relevant to NENC ICS.
Consult with public members through the ARC NENC Public Involvement and Community Engagement (PICE) network on priority setting (for the sprints), implementation and mobilising evidence into practice.
Actively integrate with existing implementation and knowledge mobilisation initiatives in the region, including the ARC NENC Impact and Implementation Special Interest Group, Boost, Embedded Researchers in Local Councils (ERIC) network, Knowledge Mobilisation Alliance, KNOW-PH, the NIHR Centre for Engagement and Dissemination.
Champion the role of Knowledge Mobilisation in the region by engaging with relevant stakeholders and networks, and work closely with our community of practice fellows, dementia, social care and mental health fellows, who are research champions in their respective teams and organisations, and will be key in championing KM more widely.
Actively engage with the KM Network and cross ARC network of KM Fellows and support research brokerage within and across ARCs.
Collect data on how the evidence mobilised is being used. This could take the form of reflective diaries, observation notes at meetings, document analysis and follow-up interviews with stakeholders to track where the evidence flows within organisations and how confident they are in using data and information to inform decisions. Based on this information, construct ‘outcomes changes’ for the evidence mobilised and the impact achieved.
