Our Residential Children’s Homes in Chester, Ellesmere Port, Warrington, St Helens, and Widnes provide safe, structured, and supportive environments for children aged 6-18. As we grow, we’re looking for experienced and passionate individuals to take on this key leadership role, helping to deliver exceptional care while mentoring and guiding others.
Role Overview
As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective day-to-day operation of the home while directly supporting children and young people. You’ll act as a role model and mentor to Residential Support Workers, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and well-being.
This is a hands-on leadership role, combining direct support with supervisory responsibilities. You’ll help young people develop life skills, build resilience, and achieve their goals while also supporting the team to excel in their roles.

Key Responsibilities
- Providing Direct Support: Actively engage with young people, assisting with daily routines, education, and life skills development.
- Supervising Staff: Support, mentor, and guide Residential Support Workers, ensuring best practices and high standards of care.
- Maintaining Structure: Create a safe, nurturing environment with consistent routines to promote stability and positive outcomes for young people.
- Team Leadership: Lead shifts, delegate responsibilities, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the home.
- Monitoring Progress: Oversee and review care plans, ensuring accurate recording of progress and compliance with care standards.
- Promoting Development: Encourage independence, confidence, and well-being in young people through tailored support and guidance.
- Responding to Challenges: Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour, providing a calm and professional response.
- Collaborating with Professionals: Liaise with families, social workers, therapists, and external agencies to advocate for the needs of young people.
- Safeguarding: Uphold safeguarding principles, ensuring the safety and welfare of young people and compliance with all policies.
- Contributing to the Home: Support the Home Manager in the delivery of staff training, appraisals, and team meetings.
What We’re Looking For
We value candidates with a combination of life experience, leadership skills, and professional expertise.
We’re looking for individuals who:
- Bring significant life experienceor professional expertise in residential childcare, youth work, or similar settings.
- Hold a Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People or equivalent, or be working towards achieving at least 30% of this qualification.
- Have previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a residential care setting.
- Are empathetic, patient, and resilient, with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to mentor and inspire a team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Show confidence in making decisions, managing challenges, and maintaining professionalism in demanding situations.
- Possess excellent time-management and organisational skills.
- Have a thorough understanding of safeguarding and care principles.
- Are flexible to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overnight sleep-ins.

Hours of Work
Shifts are 16 hours per shift with a sleep-in attached. Rotas typically involve either:
- Two shifts per week and four days off, or
- One shift on and two days off, on a rolling pattern.
Each employee will work 10 shifts per month as part of a rotational shift pattern.
