Role Purpose
To play an integral part within the Finance team, responsible for the day-to-day processing of financial transactions while ensuring compliance with the firm's policies and procedures.
The role supports the Head Legal Cashier in maintaining the efficient and effective operation of the team and provides cover and deputises for the Head Legal Cashier during periods of absence
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and process client, office, and general ledger financial transactions, including receipts, cheques, CHAPS transfers, and domestic and international electronic payments, ensuring compliance with firm policies and SRA Accounts Rules.
- Review, approve, and reconcile daily and monthly Office and Client Account bank reconciliations, maintaining accurate records and providing account balances as required.
- Manage billing activities, including the preparation of single and multi-matter invoices, cancellation notes, write-offs, disbursement transfers, and client-specific fee arrangements, ensuring high levels of accuracy and productivity.
- Act as the primary point of contact for fee earners, secretaries, clients, and external parties regarding billing, cashiering, and financial transaction queries, resolving issues promptly and effectively.
- Maintain and monitor financial controls, including Disbursement Funding Accounts, the COFA Breaches Register, residual balances, and other regulatory and compliance-related processes.
- Support the operational management of the Legal Cashiering team, coordinating workload distribution, ensuring adequate team cover, and deputising in their absence.
- Provide training and development support for new and existing team members, including coordinating induction programmes, implementing training requirements, and where appropriate supervising junior legal cashiers.
- Assist with audit and departmental requirements, including liaising with auditors during the annual SRA audit, managing queries, maintaining proficiency in finance management system.
