PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
A hands on role, taking responsibility for Goods Inward, Stock Management , Stock Allocation and Stock Movements within a manufacturing business working 24-7/
The Stock Controller is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, storage, movement and control of both raw materials and finished goods inventory.
The role ensures that stock is accurately recorded within the ERP system, stored safely and efficiently, readily available to support production schedules, and maintained in accordance with company procedures and health and safety requirements. The post holder will work closely with Planning, Operation and Despatch departments. Ensuing high levels of inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Stock Control & Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records within the QAD ERP system through timely and accurate processing of stock transactions.
- Ensure all stock locations are correctly identified, labelled and maintained.
- Monitor finished goods stock levels and availability to support customer and production requirements.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies promptly, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain full traceability of stock movements across the business.
Warehouse & Storage Management
- Ensure all warehouse and stock storage areas are maintained in a safe, clean and organised condition.
- Ensure stock is stored correctly to minimise damage, deterioration and handling risks.
- Control access to stock storage areas and prevent unauthorised movement of goods.
- Coordinate the efficient storage and retrieval of stock to maximise space utilisation and operational effectiveness.
- Support continuous improvements to warehouse layout, racking systems and stock accessibility.
Production Support
- Liaise daily with Planning and Inspection departments to ensure material availability for scheduled production activities.
- Prepare stock requirements for fabrication and belting operations in accordance with production plans.
- Ensure unused materials are returned to stock promptly and accurately recorded within QAD.
- Assist production teams in resolving stock-related issues that may impact operational performance.
Stock Audits & Reconciliation
- Conduct regular cycle counts and weekly stock checks to maintain a perpetual inventory system.
- Manage and run full stocktakes with the assistance of the Financial Controller.
- Investigate and reconcile stock variances and report significant discrepancies to the Financial Controller.
- Prepare stock reports and supporting information as required.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve stock accuracy, inventory processes and warehouse efficiency.
- Support projects aimed at improving inventory control, stock visibility and warehouse operations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of best practice inventory management procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Operate forklift trucks and material handling equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Comply with all company Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental policies.
- Report hazards, accidents, near misses and unsafe practices immediately.
- Ensure compliance with stock control procedures, audit requirements and company standards.
General
- Provide support to the Despatch and Inspection Department when required.
- Assist other departments during periods of operational demand.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the level of the role.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience within a stock control, inventory management, warehouse or manufacturing environment.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems (QAD desirable).
- Current Counterbalance FLT Licence.
- Experience conducting stock counts and inventory reconciliations.
- Good understanding of warehouse processes and inventory management principles.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.
- Experience of stock control within textile, coatings or industrial manufacturing operations.
- Supervisory or management experience
