Maintenance Engineer – Electrical Bias
Location: Kings Norton, Birmingham
Hours: 40 hours per week
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance Engineer with an Electrical Bias to join our busy manufacturing operation in Kings Norton, Birmingham.
In this key role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and continuous operation of our production machinery, electrical systems, plant and site services. You will play an important role in minimising downtime, improving equipment reliability and developing a proactive maintenance culture across the business.
Working closely with the Production team, you will undertake planned, preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance, while also supporting continuous improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance across production machinery, plant and site services.
- Diagnose and repairelectrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control system faults to minimise production downtime.
- Fault-find, maintain and improve PLC-controlled systems, automation and electrical equipment.
- Install, test, commission and modify machinery, plant and electrical systems as required.
- Carry out routine inspections and maintenance to ensure machinery remains safe, reliable and serviceable.
- Lead and support the Maintenance team, including allocating work, providing guidance and supporting training and development.
- Monitor maintenance performance and KPIs, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Manage and oversee external contractors, ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure statutory inspections and compliance requirements are maintained, including PAT, fixed wiring, thermal imaging, LOLER and pressure systems.
- Ensure equipment requiring calibration is maintained and certified in line with company and legislative requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, compliance documentation and equipment history.
- Manage maintenance parts, materials and specialist services, ensuring expenditure is controlled within budget.
- Support engineering and capital improvement projects to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and operational performance.
- Carry out fabrication and welding activities where required.
- Work closely with Production to plan maintenance activities and minimise disruption to manufacturing.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong electrical engineering knowledge and an appropriate electrical qualification.
- Experience fault-finding and repairing industrial electrical systems and machinery.
- Experience working with PLCs, automation and control systems.
- Good mechanical, pneumatic and general engineering knowledge.
- Experience of planned preventative maintenance and breakdown response.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a maintenance or engineering environment is desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical manuals.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety, statutory compliance and safe systems of work.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and preventing equipment failures.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, contractors and external service providers.
- A flexible approach to working hours and occasional out-of-hours breakdown response.
