About the Role:
London is one of the world’s leading centres for technology, sport, and digital innovation, and at Lavosball Sports Technology Ltd, we bring these worlds together to build modern technology solutions for the sports industry. We develop scalable digital platforms and data-driven products designed to improve how sports organisations, teams, and their audiences interact with technology.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who can provide technical leadership across our software platforms and help shape the architecture behind our next generation of digital products. You will work closely with product managers, software engineers, and technical stakeholders to turn complex requirements into reliable and scalable solutions.
This is a hands-on senior technical position. You will contribute directly to critical engineering projects while helping establish development standards, guide architectural decisions, and mentor engineers across the team.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment: Join a collaborative London-based technology environment where engineers are encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge technical assumptions, and take meaningful ownership of the products they build.
Technical Ownership: You will have significant influence over architecture, engineering practices, and technology decisions that affect the long-term direction of our platforms.
Modern Engineering: Our teams work with modern cloud infrastructure, APIs, scalable backend services, automated testing, and contemporary web technologies to deliver dependable digital products.
Professional Growth: We support continuous technical development through professional training, industry events, certifications, and opportunities to explore emerging technologies relevant to our products.
Key Responsibilities:
Software Architecture: Design and evolve scalable software architectures that support high-performance digital platforms and future product growth.
Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction on complex engineering projects and help teams make informed decisions around architecture, performance, security, and scalability.
Hands-On Development: Design, develop, review, and maintain production-quality software across critical areas of our technology platform.
Engineering Standards: Establish and improve coding standards, testing practices, documentation, and development processes that promote reliable and maintainable software.
Team Mentoring: Support Senior, Mid-level, and Junior engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback.
System Performance: Identify technical bottlenecks and implement improvements that strengthen application performance, reliability, and availability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, data, and business teams to understand requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
Technology Evaluation: Assess new technologies, frameworks, and development approaches and recommend solutions based on clear technical and business requirements.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience: 7 or more years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience delivering complex and scalable software systems.
Technical Leadership: Demonstrated experience providing technical direction, making architectural decisions, and mentoring other software engineers.
Technical Skills: Strong experience with modern programming languages, web technologies, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and software development best practices.
Architecture: A strong understanding of distributed systems, application architecture, scalability, system integration, and performance optimisation.
Engineering Quality: Experience with automated testing, code reviews, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and maintaining high standards of software quality.
Problem Solving: You can analyse complex technical challenges, evaluate different approaches, and implement practical solutions that balance immediate requirements with long-term maintainability.
Communication: Strong English communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Mindset: You are pragmatic, collaborative, and comfortable taking ownership of technically challenging projects. You understand when to improve an existing solution and when a new technical approach is necessary.
