Support Children with SEN and Complex Needs in a Mainstream Primary Setting
A welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role will involve supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism (ASD), complex needs, communication difficulties, learning difficulties, and behavioural needs.
We are looking for someone with previous experience in a primary school, SEN school, nurture provision, or similar setting, who is confident supporting children on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting pupils with SEN, ASD, complex needs, and behavioural difficulties
- Working on a 1:1 basis and with small groups
- Supporting pupils with learning, communication, and emotional regulation
- Helping children access the curriculum through tailored support
- Using de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies
- Supporting children who may become dysregulated or require additional intervention
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
- Promoting independence, confidence, and social development
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
- Creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
- Experience supporting children with SEN, complex needs, or autism
- Experience working in a primary school or specialist educational setting
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
- Ability to remain professional and resilient in challenging situations
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
Desirable Training & Experience
- Team Teach Training
- MAPA / PRICE / Positive Handling training
- Autism awareness or ASD training
- Behaviour support experience
- Nurture group experience
- Speech and language support experience
- SEN intervention experience
- Emotional regulation and de-escalation strategies
