About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable Semi-Senior Accountant to join our
growing accountancy practice in Rayleigh, Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who has gained experience within
practice and is now looking to take the next step in their career.
You will work closely with experienced accountants and senior management, while
taking responsibility for a varied portfolio of clients and developing your technical
knowledge across accounts, VAT, bookkeeping and management accounts.
The successful candidate will be someone who is keen to progress, takes pride in the
quality of their work and is looking to build a long-term career within accountancy
practice.
Key Responsibilities
Your role will include:
- Managing a portfolio of clients with appropriate support.
- Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
- Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts.
- Preparing VAT returns and associated workings.
- Completing bookkeeping and reviewing bookkeeping records.
- Preparing bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintaining accurate client records.
- Assisting with corporation tax and personal tax returns.
- Preparing working papers and supporting schedules.
- Identifying and resolving accounting discrepancies.
- Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and answer queries.
- Communicating with clients professionally by telephone and email.
- Ensuring client deadlines are met.
- Assisting senior accountants with more complex client assignments.
- Reviewing basic bookkeeping and accounts work where appropriate.
- Supporting junior members of the team.
- Keeping up to date with relevant accounting and tax developments.
- Assisting with improving systems and processes within the practice.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has already gained practical experience within an
accountancy practice and is ready to develop their skills further.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
- Experience preparing year-end accounts.
- Experience with management accounts.
- Experience preparing VAT returns.
- Good bookkeeping knowledge.
- Experience dealing directly with clients.
- A good understanding of UK accounting principles.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- The ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- A professional and approachable manner.
- The ability to work independently while also being part of a team.
- A genuine desire to progress your career.
Qualifications
Ideally, you will be:
- AAT qualified or studying towards AAT, or
- ACCA/ACA part-qualified, or
- Qualified by experience.
We are also happy to consider candidates who have strong practical experience but are
not yet formally qualified.
Accounting Software
Experience with some of the following would be advantageous:
- Xero
- Sage
- QuickBooks
- Microsoft Excel
Training will be provided where required.
