Academic Cover Teacher – Functional Skills English & Maths

Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
Dunbar Education is recruiting a flexible and engaging Qualified Teacher to join a specialist education setting in Milton Keynes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who enjoys variety and is confident delivering Functional Skills English and Maths, while providing academic cover across the wider curriculum when required.
You will be working with young people aged 12–18 in a highly structured environment, supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
The Role
You will:
- Deliver Functional Skills English and Maths
- Provide academic cover across different areas of the curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons appropriate to individual learner needs
- Support students working at different academic levels
- Adapt teaching for learners with additional educational and behavioural needs
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement
- Work closely with the wider education and pastoral team
- Help young people develop confidence, independence and employability skills
Experience or confidence teaching additional subjects such as Business and PSHE would be highly desirable.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a recognised teaching qualification
- Be confident teaching Functional Skills English and Maths
- Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills
- Be adaptable and comfortable covering different curriculum areas
- Have a genuine interest in supporting young people who may have experienced challenges in education
- Be able to work Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
- Hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS
- Have the right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Functional Skills teaching experience
- SEND, SEMH or Alternative Provision experience
- Experience teaching Business and/or PSHE
- Experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged young people
- Experience within specialist or non-mainstream education
