Through our employability programmes, we support people facing barriers to employment to gain confidence, skills and practical experience that enable them to move towards positive destinations. The Workplace Trainer plays a key role in delivering training, support and development opportunities that help participants progress towards employment, volunteering or further learning.
Purpose of Post
To deliver high-quality employability and workplace training to participants with identified barriers to employment, supporting them to develop the skills, confidence and behaviours required to move towards sustainable employment.
The Workplace Trainer will work directly with participants through both group and one-to-one sessions, providing practical training, guidance and encouragement throughout their journey. The post holder will be committed to achieving positive outcomes and ensuring participants are supported to reach their full potential.

Placement and Training Manager
Responsible for
- Delivering employability and workplace skills training to participants across New Start Highland programmes.
- Supporting individuals with identified barriers to employment through tailored learning and development activities.
- Facilitating both group-based and one-to-one training sessions.
- Developing participant confidence, employability skills and workplace readiness.
- Monitoring participant progress and identifying additional support needs where appropriate.
- Maintaining accurate participant records, training documentation and session plans.
- Contributing to positive participant destinations including employment, volunteering and further education or training.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure participants receive consistent and effective support.
Working Relationships
- Develop positive and supportive relationships with programme participants.
- Work closely with Employability Team colleagues to coordinate participant support and progression.
- Liaise with operational teams across New Start Highland to identify learning and development opportunities.
- Engage with external agencies and support services where appropriate to facilitate participant progress.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
Key Results
- Participants engage positively in training and development activities.
- Improved confidence, skills and employability outcomes for programme participants.
- Delivery of high-quality group and individual training sessions.
- Positive progression of participants into employment, volunteering, further learning or other agreed destinations.
- Accurate and timely recording of participant data and outcomes.
- Session plans and training records maintained and regularly updated.

Key Tasks
- Deliver structured group and one-to-one training sessions focused on employability and workplace skills.
- Support participants to identify personal goals and develop action plans to achieve them.
- Assist participants in overcoming barriers that may impact their progression towards employment.
- Monitor attendance, participation and engagement within training activities.
- Record participant progress and maintain accurate case notes and training records.
- Update session plans and training materials as required.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to support participant development.
- Identify participants requiring additional support and refer appropriately where necessary.
- Contribute to participant reviews and progress meetings.
- Support the collection of outcome data and reporting requirements.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all aspects of the role.
- Act within the values and culture of New Start Highland with accountability and professionalism.
Conditions
Based in Inverness, the post is for 21 hours per week.
There are 32 days holiday per year (pro rata) rising to 35 days after five years' service.
Salary dependent upon experience.
There will be an opportunity to participate in a contributory pension scheme.
The post may require a basic disclosure.
