Wet Worker / HIU Engineer

We are recruiting for an experienced Wet Worker / HIU Engineer to join a specialist team delivering maintenance, servicing and repair of communal and district heating systems across residential and mixed-use developments.
This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on Heat Interface Units (HIUs), communal heating systems, plumbing and heating controls. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and ensuring systems operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, repair and commission Heat Interface Units (HIUs).
- Diagnose and resolve faults across district and communal heating systems.
- Work on radiators, valves, pumps and associated heating components.
- Diagnose and repair heating controls, including Y Plan, S Plan, programmers, motorised valves and thermostats.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance.
- Undertake system balancing and performance testing.
- Work across communal plant rooms, distribution networks and residential properties.
- Maintain accurate job records and reports using mobile/PDA systems.
- Manage van stock and materials to maximise first-time fixes.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional standards.
- Support apprentices and less experienced engineers where required.
- Participate in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum 3 years' experience working with district/communal heating systems.
- Strong experience servicing and repairing HIUs.
- City & Guilds Level 2/3 Plumbing or equivalent.
- Formal Water Regulations training.
- WRAS-approved water regulations/water treatment training.
- Strong knowledge of communal plumbing and hot & cold water distribution systems.
- Experience with heating controls, including Y Plan and S Plan.
- Good understanding of safe isolation procedures.
- Knowledge of communal heating plant rooms and district heating networks.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
- Awareness of HSE ACOP L8 requirements.
Desirable
Qualifications or training in G3 Unvented Hot Water, Low Temperature Heating Systems, HIU manufacturer training, Asbestos Awareness, Working at Height, Manual Handling or First Aid would be advantageous.
