About the Role
We are looking for reliable and motivated Despatch Operatives to join our team at USP Steels.
Working within our busy steel operation, you will play an important role in ensuring customer orders are prepared, handled and despatched safely, accurately and on time. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who works well in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy and organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes and other material handling equipment in line with company procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Load and unload vehicles safely and efficiently, ensuring the correct material is handled and despatched.
- Pick, locate, move and prepare steel products for despatch, checking orders for accuracy.
- Record and monitor stock movements accurately using company warehouse and stock management systems.
- Ensure steel products are handled carefully to minimise the risk of damage during storage, movement and loading.
- Support the efficient flow of material throughout the warehouse and despatch areas.
- Work closely with production, transport and other colleagues to meet daily despatch requirements and customer deadlines.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment at all times.
- Carry out routine checks on equipment and report any faults, damage or safety concerns promptly.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE and safe manual handling practices.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as required to support warehouse and despatch operations.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience within a warehouse, despatch, logistics or manufacturing environment. Experience within the steel industry would be advantageous.
- Have experience operating forklifts and/or overhead cranes. Relevant licences or certifications would be beneficial.
- Have experience with goods-in, goods-out, picking and despatch processes.
- Have strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately identify and handle stock.
- Understand the importance of safe working practices within a busy warehouse or industrial environment.
- Be reliable, punctual and comfortable working as part of a team.
- Be able to work effectively in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Take a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and housekeeping.
