Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6/7)

Sanctuary Personnel is recruiting an experienced Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join a Children, Schools and Families Speech and Language Therapy service in Surrey.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist to work with school-aged children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs, including children with complex presentations requiring specialist multidisciplinary support.
The role involves delivering high-quality assessment, intervention, and therapy advice across a range of educational settings, including mainstream schools, Special Schools, and specialist centres. The successful candidate will benefit from regular clinical supervision, access to CPD opportunities, and support from an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Travel will be required between allocated schools within a defined geographical area.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment, advice, and intervention for children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs
- Manage an allocated caseload of children with a range of communication difficulties, including complex needs requiring multidisciplinary input
- Complete comprehensive assessments, develop intervention plans, and review outcomes effectively
- Provide clear verbal and written feedback to children, families, education staff, and other professionals
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, healthcare professionals, and wider multidisciplinary teams
- Use clinical judgement to determine appropriate levels of support and intervention required
- Set individualised therapy targets and monitor progress using relevant SLT and educational outcome measures
- Support education settings to embed communication strategies into everyday practice
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, policies, and clinical practice
- Provide supervision, guidance, and support to Speech and Language Therapy Assistants or junior therapists where required
- Manage complex cases and contribute to effective care planning
Essential Requirements
- BSc (Hons) Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or recognised equivalent qualification
- Current HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
- Proven experience managing a complex caseload of children and young people
- Experience working within children’s speech, language, and communication services
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards, and clinical frameworks
- Excellent assessment, intervention planning, and review skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and clinical database systems
- Enhanced DBS clearance
Desirable Requirements
- Postgraduate training in Dysphagia, particularly within Special School settings
- Experience using PECS, Makaton, or TEACCH approaches
- Experience supporting children with speech disorders
- Previous experience supervising or line managing junior staff
- Experience working across education and specialist clinical environments
