As a senior ground investigation engineer, you will be an integrated member of our UK-wide Site Evaluation and Restoration team, leading from site our large-scale ground investigation projects. Working as part of our Ground Investigation Contracting capability you will support clients across all sectors but with a focus on infrastructure such as rail, energy, highways and waterways by conducting a variety of different tasks including ground investigation management, supervision, programme management and commercial management support to the project manager. A high proportion of the work will be spent on client sites, leading site investigations, implementing and maintaining safe and efficient working practices.
We are looking for an established ground investigation practitioner from a contracting background, who is looking for their next step in their career. As a part of our ground investigation capability, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and sectors.

There is flexibility as to your choice of location within the UK and you can select any of the following offices: Warrington, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff or Glasgow. Work may be across the UK
Your Day-to-Day
- Site management including supply chain co-ordination and procurement
- Field based work undertaken across the UK, including:
- Site management of ground investigations and associated works, with a strong focus on SHEQ management and documentation.
- Leadership and co-ordination of site teams, including programme management feeding into project management team
- QA/QC of logging of soil and rock to appropriate British Standards and ensuring the quality output of in-situ field testing.
- Commercial reporting to the project manager, providing updated measures and identifying early warnings and input into compensation events in the field
- Stakeholder liaison
- Work collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall project.
- Produce project outputs (e.g. documentation, reports) and ensure that they meet or exceed client expectations and Arcadis requirements and comply with relevant national standards and codes of practice.
- Develop effective working relationships with the Project Manager and with the client and ensure effective communication of progress and changes and the resolution of issues.
- Develop and maintain a good understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, of the client’s business and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and to consolidate personal and company credibility in the industry.
Requirements
- BSc / BEng qualified (or higher) in Geology, Geoscience, Geography or Civil Engineering
- Experience of undertaking lead engineer role on large scale ground investigation projects and in supervising engineers and multiple contractors
- Minimum of 5 years experience of working in the field
- Knowledge of NEC4 contract management, producing and managing early warnings and CEs, compiling measures
- Strong Health and safety and risk management associated with ground investigations, including budgetary and technical considerations. Experience compiling and managing construction phase plan documentation essential
- SMSTS preferred
- Stakeholder management and strong communication skills essential
- Working towards professional membership and chartership.
- Desired - Rail / Highway / Energy sector experience
