The Role
We have an exciting permanent opportunity for an Technical College Assessor to join our Technical College team. This role is based the International Aviation Academy Norwich (IAAN) and is Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to assess student competency and mark students’ work in like with higher education, apprenticeship briefs and other awarding body expectations, ensuring that all assessment decisions meet awarding body standards for validity, reliability, authenticity, and sufficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing performance and knowledge evidence using appropriate assessment methods
- Providing clear, developmental feedback aligned to assessment criteria
- Providing feedback on the clarity and accuracy of students’ work, including spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Ensuring performance evidence requirements are met (e.g. multiple examples of competence)
- Reviewing and validating witness testimonies for technical accuracy
- Maintaining accurate and auditable assessment records
- Supporting the Apprenticeship Delivery Manager with EQA visits and actions
- Participating in standardisation and internal quality assurance activities
- Supporting cross-referencing of evidence across units using unit trackers
- Maintaining, suggesting and implementing improvements to unit trackers
- Meeting agreed turnaround times for marking work
- Supporting students in meeting their deadlines
- Conducting visits to the workplace to assess students when required
- Conduct workplace visits to assess practical training
- Undertaking or participating in Learner Reviews
Selection Criteria
Essential
- GCSE in Mathematics & English (Grade C/4 or above)
- Relevant engineering experience
- Strong understanding of assessment requirements
- Experience working with Microsoft systems
Desirable
- A full UK driving licence
- Aviation engineering experience
- Assessor qualification(s), for example IQA, CAVA, TAQA
- Qualification(s) in Education and Training
- Knowledge of EASA and UKCAA Pt 147 and 66 requirements
- Understanding of apprenticeship standards and End-Point Assessment (EPA)
- Understanding of Higher Education assignment briefs and marking methods
- Experience with EAL qualifications or similar awarding organisations
- Experience using e-portfolio systems
