Solicitor (Legal)

About the Role
We're recruiting a Solicitor to join the Corporate & Environmental Law team within Legal Services. This is a professional role, ideal for someone experienced in Public Procurement, Commercial Law, and major commercial projects.
You will provide legal advice, guidance, and representation to internal and external customers of Legal Services, ensuring compliance with professional standards and contributing to the effective delivery of council priorities.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing a personal caseload, providing expert legal advice, support, and advocacy
- Acting on behalf of customers in legal proceedings and advising at internal/external meetings
- Ensuring compliance with professional standards, training requirements, and council policies
- Maintaining awareness of legal developments and escalating issues where necessary
- Identifying changes in law and practice, contributing to policy development and efficiencies
- Delivering training to colleagues and customers on relevant legal matters
- Providing professional supervision and support to other officers in Legal Services
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of allocated legal disciplines
- Working proactively and flexibly to achieve service improvements
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a qualified solicitor with strong technical expertise and professional integrity.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in Public Procurement, Commercial Law, and corporate projects
- Ability to manage complex caseloads independently
- Strong advocacy and advisory skills
- Knowledge of legal developments and ability to apply them to practice
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to professional standards and continuous improvement
- Ability to supervise and support colleagues
Requirements:
- Current practising certificate as a Solicitor or Barrister
- Demonstrable experience of working within a local authority, or advising local authorities in private practice
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload effectively
- Knowledge and some experience of county Planning matters (Desirable)
