About EliteSight HomeCare
EliteSight HomeCare provides mobile eye and hearing-care services primarily within residential and nursing care homes.
We are expanding our hearing-care service and are recruiting two Hearing Care Assistants:
- One to cover Cambridge and surrounding areas
- One to cover the South West of England
Each Hearing Care Assistant will take responsibility for representing the company within their assigned region and helping care-home residents progress through the appropriate ear-health and hearing-care pathway.
This is an independent, mobile role. The successful applicants must be clinically responsible, organised, compassionate and comfortable acting as the main company representative during care-home visits.
The care pathway
Our care-home service normally follows three stages:
- Initial ear-health checks and hearing screening
- Earwax removal where required, appropriate and within the employee’s verified competence
- Booking comprehensive hearing assessments with the Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dispenser where further investigation is recommended
The Hearing Care Assistant will manage the first stages of the resident journey and ensure that findings, recommendations and next actions are recorded and communicated accurately.
Main responsibilities
- Attend residential and nursing care homes throughout the assigned region.
- Represent EliteSight HomeCare professionally during each clinic.
- Build effective working relationships with care-home managers, staff and coordinators.
- Explain the service and clinic process clearly to residents, care teams and family representatives.
- Obtain and document appropriate consent before providing care.
- Complete relevant medical-history and contraindication checks.
- Conduct otoscopy and ear-health checks.
- Complete hearing screening using approved equipment and company procedures.
- Identify residents who may require earwax removal, monitoring, onward referral or a comprehensive hearing assessment.
- Perform earwax removal only where appropriately trained, assessed as competent and authorised by the company.
- Recognise when treatment should be stopped, deferred or escalated.
- Provide appropriate ear-care preparation and aftercare instructions.
- Book comprehensive hearing assessments with the Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dispenser.
- Support communication with residents’ relatives or representatives where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
- Complete clinic trackers, handovers and next-action lists.
- Ensure outstanding actions are communicated promptly after every clinic.
- Maintain clinical equipment, infection-control standards and stock levels.
- Help ensure residents attend their scheduled follow-up appointments.
- Work within the company’s safeguarding, consent, data-protection and clinical-governance procedures.
Essential requirements
- Previous experience in audiology, ear care, hearing care, healthcare or another relevant patient-facing role.
- Experience communicating with older adults and vulnerable patients.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while following agreed clinical pathways.
- Excellent organisation, diary management and record keeping.
- Confidence using tablets, digital patient records and mobile clinical equipment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
- Willingness to complete reference, qualification, driving-licence and appropriate DBS checks.
Earwax-removal experience
Formal earwax-removal training and practical experience are strongly preferred.
Applicants with relevant audiology or healthcare experience who have not yet completed earwax-removal training may still be considered where they demonstrate the appropriate patient-care skills and ability to complete structured training and competency assessment.
No employee will provide earwax removal independently until their training, insurance status and practical competence have been verified.
Desirable experience
- Previous employment as a Hearing Care Assistant or Audiology Assistant.
- Earwax-removal experience involving microsuction, irrigation or manual instrumentation.
- Experience delivering mobile or domiciliary healthcare services.
- Previous work inside residential or nursing care homes.
- Experience supporting people living with dementia or reduced mental capacity.
- Knowledge of consent, safeguarding and escalation procedures.
- Experience using video otoscopy or hearing-screening equipment.
- Familiarity with hearing aids or private audiology pathways.
- Experience coordinating appointments with families, care homes and clinicians.
Regional requirementsCambridge position
The successful applicant will be based within reasonable travelling distance of Cambridge and will cover care homes throughout Cambridge and surrounding areas.
South West position
The successful applicant will be based within the South West and will cover care homes across an agreed regional territory.
The role will involve regular driving and may occasionally require longer clinic days or overnight stays where geographically necessary. Clinics will be grouped by location wherever possible to reduce unnecessary travel.
Scope of the position
The Hearing Care Assistant will work within their verified training, competence and approved company procedures.
The position does not include independently:
- Diagnosing hearing loss
- Conducting comprehensive diagnostic hearing assessments
- Prescribing hearing aids
- Recommending hearing aids outside an approved pathway
- Providing treatment outside the employee’s authorised clinical scope
Comprehensive hearing assessments and hearing-aid recommendations will be completed by an appropriately qualified Audiologist or Hearing Aid Dispenser.
Application process
Pay: £15.00-£18.00 per hour
