Working in Pricing at NFU Mutual feels genuinely different. With a clear focus on customers rather than shareholders, the team’s work has real impact — supporting local communities, protecting livelihoods, and helping our UK-wide Agency Network deliver exceptional service. Our Pricing team is central to how we support our customers, and its role is becoming even more crucial as we continue to strengthen our pricing capability and deliver fair, insight-driven outcomes.
As a Large Corporate Pricing Consultant, you’ll play a key role in developing data-and-analytics informed pricing capability to support LCI’s target COR, growth and retention objectives, in line with NFU Mutual’s pricing strategy.
You’ll lead the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of our Commercial Property rating tool, and the deterministic experience rating tool for large Casualty corporate risks. This would include deriving and reviewing underlying assumptions, documenting updates and communicating the impact of changes on output prices to stakeholders. Alongside this, you’ll research, develop, build and implement stochastic pricing tools and other innovative pricing methods, helping to enhance pricing capability across the GI Pricing Department.
Working closely with colleagues across LCI, Underwriting, Pricing and wider business communities, you’ll build, maintain and report on portfolio-level pricing outcomes, identifying pricing actions that resolve challenges, realise opportunities and support future improvements. You’ll also lead scenario planning and impact assessments to understand the effect of future pricing actions on the portfolio.
This is a highly visible role where you’ll build strong internal and external relationships with business stakeholders and committees, gaining support and approval for LCI technical pricing developments. You’ll also coach and support LCI Underwriters, helping to embed an underwriting-led but pricing-enabled culture through strong awareness of pricing principles and wider understanding of insurance financials.
You're an experienced pricing professional with strong technical capability and the confidence to translate complex pricing analysis into clear, practical recommendations. You communicate complex concepts in a way that is easy for others to understand and are comfortable presenting insights and recommendations to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You'll have excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across underwriting, pricing and wider business functions. Confident in challenging thinking and constructively questioning assumptions, you'll use data and evidence to shape decision-making and achieve successful business outcomes.
You thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment, demonstrating agility when priorities change and balancing multiple demands effectively. With strong organisational skills, you're able to prioritise workloads, manage your time effectively and consistently deliver high-quality outputs to agreed timescales.
Alongside your technical expertise, you enjoy collaborating with others, sharing knowledge and supporting the wider development of pricing capability across the business. Whilst people management experience is desirable, you'll be passionate about coaching and developing others and contributing to a positive and collaborative team culture.
You to be considered, you need to demonstrate the following:
-
Significant experience of working in a general insurance Pricing function with direct responsibility for pricing outputs (Commercial Lines experience is desirable)
-
Trend analysis experience within a claims environment
-
Experience building and/or updating pricing models
-
Experience working with pricing software and analytical tools such as Emblem, SQL, R or similar are highly desirable
-
Experience presenting technical pricing recommendations to senior stakeholders, committees and governance bodies, putting complex pricing data into ‘layman’s terms’ easily and succinctly
