About Harrogate BID
Harrogate Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led, business-funded organisation representing over 500 businesses across Harrogate town centre.
Our purpose is simple. We work every day to make Harrogate cleaner, greener, safer and more welcoming for everyone who lives, works and visits the town.
Working alongside businesses, North Yorkshire Council, North Yorkshire Police, Harrogate Town Council and many other partners, we deliver projects that make a real difference to the town centre. Whether that's supporting local businesses, improving the public realm, delivering events or helping tackle business crime, we are passionate about making Harrogate one of the very best town centres in the UK.

The Role
No two days are ever the same.
One morning you could be jet washing a busy shopping street, repainting tired street furniture or helping prepare the town for a major event. By lunchtime you might be responding to a request from a local business, removing graffiti, repairing a planter or reporting an issue to one of our partners. Later in the day you could be welcoming visitors, supporting an event or identifying improvements that will make the town centre even better.
This is a practical, hands-on role for someone who enjoys making a visible difference.
You will become one of the most recognisable faces in Harrogate town centre, building strong relationships with businesses whilst helping keep the town clean, attractive, welcoming and safe.

Key Responsibilities
Improving the Town Centre
You'll help maintain and improve the appearance of Harrogate town centre through a programme of planned maintenance and improvement works.
These may include:
- Jet washing and steam cleaning streets and pavements.
- Removing graffiti, chewing gum and fly-posting
- Weeding and maintaining public spaces.
- Painting and maintaining street furniture.
- Watering planters and floral displays.
- Minor repairs where appropriate.
- Supporting environmental improvement projects.
- Carrying out regular inspections and reporting issues.
- Be proactive rather than reactive.
You will also identify opportunities to improve the town centre, taking pride in the smallest details that help create a positive impression.
Responding to Businesses
Every day businesses contact the BID for support.
Using our online reporting systems, telephone and face-to-face conversations, you'll respond quickly to requests and work with colleagues and partners to resolve issues wherever possible.
No two requests are ever the same and you'll need to be adaptable, practical and solutions focused.
Supporting Events & Projects
Harrogate BID delivers a wide range of events and projects throughout the year.
You'll support the delivery of these by helping prepare locations, assisting with set-up and pack-down, installing temporary equipment and ensuring the town always looks its very best.
Whether it's Christmas, a food festival, Yorkshire Day or another major event, you'll play an important role in making it happen.
Supporting Community Safety
As a uniformed presence within the town centre you'll act as an additional pair of eyes and ears, working closely with businesses and partner organisations.
You'll report issues such as anti-social behaviour, environmental concerns and maintenance issues whilst supporting Harrogate BID's wider work around community safety, business resilience and partnership working.
Business Engagement
Building strong relationships with businesses is one of the most important parts of the role.
You'll regularly visit levy-paying businesses, listen to concerns, provide information about BID projects and ensure businesses know how to access the support available.
You'll be approachable, professional and always willing to help.
About You
We're far more interested in attitude than qualifications.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, notices the little things that others walk past and takes pride in making places look their best.
You'll probably have experience in a practical, hands-on role. This might include property or facilities maintenance, a trade, landscaping, grounds maintenance, caretaking, construction, estates management or another role where you've developed practical maintenance and problem-solving skills.
You'll be the sort of person who can turn your hand to almost anything. One day you may be repairing a planter, the next assembling street furniture, painting bollards, jet washing a pavement or helping install event infrastructure. You enjoy variety and are happiest when you're getting stuck in.
You'll also be comfortable talking to people. Every day you'll meet businesses, visitors, residents and partner organisations, so good communication skills and a friendly, positive approach are just as important as your practical ability.
Most importantly, you'll care about Harrogate and want to play your part in making it an even better place.
Essential Requirements
- A full UK driving licence.
- Ability to meet the insurance requirements for driving Harrogate BID vehicles.
- Comfortable using a range of maintenance equipment and machinery.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual tasks.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- A positive, flexible and proactive attitude.
- Comfortable using online reporting systems and mobile technology.

Terms & Conditions
Salary
£24,900 – £26,500 per annum (including pension contribution) and 20 days paid holidays which increases to 25 on completion of successful probation.
Hours
37.5 hours per week, working five days over seven.
Working hours will normally fall between 7.30am and 5.00pm on an agreed rota, although occasional early morning, evening or weekend working will be required to support events and operational activities.
Location
Harrogate town centre, with occasional travel for meetings or training.
