Job Purpose
The Health, Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the company's Health & Safety Management System while ensuring compliance with all relevant UK legislation, customer requirements and internationally recognised standards.
The role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture, reducing business risk, maintaining statutory compliance, supporting operational excellence, and ensuring the organisation continually improves its environmental, sustainability and governance performance.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Lead the company's Health & Safety strategy.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant HSE legislation.
- Develop, review and implement Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Produce and review Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work (RAMS).
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Complete root cause investigations.
- Implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Manage accident reporting including RIDDOR where applicable.
- Maintain accident and incident statistics.
- Ensure adequate First Aid and Fire Warden provision.
- Coordinate annual Fire Risk Assessments.
- Organise fire drills and emergency planning.
- Manage COSHH assessments.
- Manage LEV inspections.
- Oversee PPE selection and compliance.
- Ensure machinery is compliant with PUWER.
- Coordinate LOLER inspections where required.
- Ensure statutory inspections remain in date.
- Manage contractor safety.
- Conduct inductions for employees, visitors and contractors.
- Maintain Health & Safety training matrix.

- Coordinate sustainability reporting.
- Improve waste reduction initiatives.
- Promote recycling programmes.
- Support Net Zero objectives.
- Assist with ESG reporting.
- Monitor environmental KPIs.
Training
Develop and deliver training including:

Supplier & Contractor Compliance
- Assess contractor competence.
- Review RAMS.
- Monitor contractor performance.
- Maintain Approved Contractor List.
- Monitor supplier compliance.
- Support responsible procurement activities.
Continuous Improvement
- Develop a positive safety culture.
- Identify business risks.
- Recommend improvements.
- Benchmark against industry best practice.
- Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

- Remove unsafe equipment from service.
- Suspend contractor activities.
- Recommend disciplinary action for serious safety breaches.
- Escalate compliance risks directly to Directors.
- Implement immediate control measures where serious risks are identified.
