Working hours: 35 hours per week, 9am – 5pm
Salary: £30,000 per annum
Location: Exchange Tower, London (on-site)
Reporting to: Workspace Manager
In this position, you will be required on site Monday through to Friday – and you’ll agree a working pattern with your manager

About Us:
The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers, or small businesses, and their financial service providers.
What You’ll Do:
As a Workspace Officer, you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, well-equipped and productive environment for colleagues—whether they’re working on site or remotely. Working as part of the Workspace team, you’ll take a proactive, hands-on approach to maintaining our spaces: carrying out regular floor walks, completing maintenance tasks, preparing meeting rooms, and managing workplace assessments to recommend the right equipment to support colleague wellbeing. You’ll also serve as a lead fire marshal, ensuring clear, confident and efficient evacuation procedures whenever required.
You’ll be a visible and approachable presence across the building, supporting colleagues through our internal helpdesk by resolving queries related to facilities, equipment, access and safety, and escalating issues where needed. By actively identifying and addressing potential risks, you’ll help prevent problems before they arise—contributing to a consistently safe, smooth-running and welcoming workplace.
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
Minimum Criteria:
- Experience of general building maintenance including manual handling, heating controls and basic routine repair work
- Having a good knowledge and understanding of buildings - including health and safety
- Experience of working in a fast paced and customer-facing role, communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing
- Good IT skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office software – being PC/laptop literate with experience in using systems such as a helpdesk
- Knowledge of fire evacuation procedures and fire marshal duties
It would also be nice for you to have:
- the ability to grasp information and processes quickly – with a ‘common sense’ approach First aid trained and qualified
- Have exposure to liaising and working with contractors and third-party engineers - acting professionally and being comfortable to take things forward with them
- Have some knowledge and experience in working on a helpdesk system or tool – responding to, creating and closing calls or requests from customers
