Overview
We are looking for a practical and reliable Maintenance Technician / Handyman to join our team at a busy care home.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of the building, equipment and grounds, ensuring a safe, comfortable and well-maintained environment for residents, visitors and staff.
This is a hands-on role involving general repairs, preventative maintenance, contractor liaison and routine safety checks. Previous experience in maintenance, facilities, construction, property services or a similar role is desirable.
Duties
- Carry out general repairs and maintenance throughout the home.
- Complete basic plumbing, decorating, carpentry and DIY tasks.
- Undertake routine building inspections and identify repair requirements.
- Maintain fixtures, fittings, furniture and equipment.
- Carry out regular health and safety checks.
- Assist with fire safety, water hygiene and general maintenance monitoring.
- Liaise with external contractors and service providers.
- Maintain maintenance records and report outstanding issues.
- Support planned preventative maintenance programmes.
- Ensure the grounds and external areas are safe and well maintained.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in a maintenance, handyman, caretaking, facilities or building services role.
- Good all-round DIY and repair skills.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry and decorating.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK driving licence desirable.
Desirable
- Experience working within a care home, healthcare or residential environment.
- Experience dealing with contractors and maintenance schedules.
- Knowledge of fire safety, water hygiene or building compliance requirements.
