The Opportunity
Join our Engineering Support Design team as a Senior Cable Design Engineer, where you’ll play a key role in delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality cable system designs that meet client requirements and industry standards. Working collaboratively across engineering, procurement, estimating, and operational teams, you’ll provide expert technical guidance that supports efficient project delivery, continuous improvement, and best practice across all cable-related activities.

Deliver safe, compliant, and efficient cable system designs that meet customer requirements, technical specifications, and industry standards.
- Produce high-quality design packs and technical documentation that support successful project delivery across both design and construction phases.
- Drive cost-effective project outcomes by collaborating with cable and accessory suppliers to identify compliant and commercially competitive solutions.
- Strengthen technical excellence and safety across projects by carrying out cable rating, induced voltage, electro-mechanical force, pulling, and crossing calculations using industry-recognised software and methodologies.
- Build strong working relationships with customers, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal teams to ensure alignment, resolve technical challenges, and support best practice.
- Support continuous improvement by monitoring design progress, recommending more effective ways of working, and keeping up to date with emerging technologies and industry developments.
- Ensure accurate approval and type registration records are maintained to support compliance, quality assurance, and project readiness.
- Provide trusted technical support to colleagues, contractors, and consultants, helping deliver safe and successful installation outcomes across all cable-related activities.
Essential:
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A sound understanding of HV and EHV cable system construction, design, installation, and test and commissioning is required, together with a comprehensive knowledge of power system engineering, and a good knowledge of current power industry based electrical engineering standards and working practices.
- Working knowledge of cable rating modelling software, such as CYMCAP, ELEK, Cableizer, or other similar cable modelling software.
- Microsoft Office including Word, Excel.
- Full UK Driving licence.
Desirable:
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and other specialised calculating and simulation software (Sketchup, Mathcad, P6).
- Membership of a professional body (IET, Cigre).
- Previous working experience with distribution or transmission network operator.
