Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and organised Parish Clerk/RFO to join our local council team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing administrative tasks, supporting council operations, and ensuring effective communication with the community. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong organisational skills and experience in office administration to contribute to local governance and community development.
Duties
- Attendance at 6 evening parish council meetings per year, currently on the first Wednesday of the month.
- Manage and maintain accurate records of council meetings, decisions, and official documents
- Prepare agendas, minutes, and reports using Microsoft Word
- Handle correspondence with residents, organisations, and external agencies via email and phone calls
- Organise meetings, including booking venues.
- Assist in budget preparation and financial record keeping using Scribe software.
- Respond to enquiries from the public with professionalism and courtesy, providing excellent customer service
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and maintain up-to-date knowledge of local government procedures
- Utilise IT skills to support council operations effectively, including data entry and document management in Microsoft Office applications
Requirements
- Proven experience in office administration or similar administrative roles
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Customer service orientation with a professional approach to public interactions
- Previous office experience within a local authority or community organisation is desirable
- Ability to work independently whilst maintaining attention to detail
- Knowledge of local government regulations and procedures is advantageous
