Sheppy's Cider Limited is an independent family-run cider making business.
We have a part-time vacancy which is ideal for someone who is very practical, hands-on and who has good engineering skills and general maintenance ability.
The role is to support our Senior Engineer in his day-to-day work on machinery and around the site generally, to help him when he needs it and to work independently when required. A calm, friendly and positive attitude to the team and to the work is essential.
Our ideal candidate will be very practical and adaptable, will work to a high standard in all things and might have experience in some of the following:
Good mechanical experience/understanding
Metalwork/lathe work/fabrication
Welding
Woodwork/carpentry
Basic building repairs
Basic plumbing
Understanding very basic electrics
The following is a list of the sorts of jobs you will spend your time doing. Some of these will come with training and experience:
Learning how our production machines work
Assisting with overhauling and maintaining production machinery
Fault-finding on production equipment and assisting with repairs
Assisting with the planned maintenance programme
Assisting with maintenance record-keeping
Painting (metal and wood)
General property maintenance and repairs around the site such as unblocking drains
We are a business which values experience, practical skills and adaptability.
The new employee will develop a good knowledge of the whole site and farm over time. The presence of the public on site has to be a constant consideration.
The hours will be spread over 4 days a week (usually Monday to Thursday), amounting to 32 hours a week. Your day will start at 7:30 am to 4pm. Flexibility to assist outside advertised hours during staff absences or emergencies may be required, including an earlier start.
The post will be based in the cider factory and all staff in this setting must observe basic hygiene standards and will receive appropriate in-house training. The post-holder will require Level 2 Food Hygiene training, which the company will arrange.
The post-holder will report to the Senior Engineer.
