Support Worker - School Setting

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and reliable Support Worker to join a welcoming school in Oldham from September. This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, helping them access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and families to provide personalised support throughout the school day.

Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional learning, physical, social, emotional, or behavioural needs.

Support pupils with personal care requirements, including toileting, changing, feeding, and promoting personal hygiene whilst maintaining dignity and respect at all times.

Assist with mobility and positioning of pupils where required, following manual handling procedures and individual care plans.

Support pupils during classroom activities, break times, lunch periods, educational visits, and other school-based activities.

Encourage independence, confidence, communication, and social interaction.

Implement behaviour support strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.

Monitor and record pupil progress, wellbeing, and any concerns, reporting appropriately to school staff.

Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs.

Previous experience supporting children, young people, or vulnerable individuals is desirable.

A caring, patient, and empathetic approach.

Ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils and colleagues.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.

Willingness to undertake training relevant to the role.

Experience or willingness to support personal care needs.

Understanding of safe manual handling practices or willingness to complete manual handling training.

Ability to follow individual care plans and risk assessments.

Confidence in supporting pupils with complex needs, including physical disabilities, autism, ADHD, or communication difficulties.
