Make a Meaningful Impact Behind the Scenes at Capital City College
Are you ready to make an impact at one of London’s leading Further Education providers? Capital City College is looking for a skilled Head of Welfare and Student Finance to support and drive key operational functions, helping shape the future of education in the heart of London.
About the Role
This role is offered on a full time, permanent basis.
Capital City College is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Welfare & Student Finance to lead welfare, Looked After Children (LAC) and financial support services across the college. This is a senior leadership role, requiring an individual who is already operating at Head-of level (or equivalent) and is confident leading through others, shaping strategy and driving organisational impact.
You will provide strategic oversight and direction across three critical areas: student finance, welfare and student support, and provision for looked after and care-experienced learners. You will be responsible for setting the vision, leading service development, and ensuring these areas deliver high-quality, inclusive and outcome-focused support for a diverse student population.
The role goes beyond operational delivery. You will lead on strategic planning, performance management and continuous improvement, ensuring services are aligned to organisational priorities and regulatory requirements. You will oversee bursaries and hardship funding, manage significant budgets, and ensure services are compliant, transparent and student-centred.
You will also act as the Designated Staff member for care-experienced learners, driving effective multi-agency partnerships and embedding robust, joined-up support systems that remove barriers to learning and promote success.
About the Team
You will join a friendly, professional team committed to delivering high-quality support across the college. Working together, you’ll help create a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued.
You will be joining a dynamic and supportive team of 8 colleagues who are committed to excellence, with a strong collaborative culture focused on sharing best practice and driving innovation.
You will directly line manage 7 staff, providing clear leadership, developing capability within the team, and ensuring a high-performing, accountable service.
About You
We are looking for a credible senior leader with the experience and confidence to operate at a strategic level. You should bring:
- Proven experience in a Head of Service (or equivalent senior leadership) role, with responsibility for setting strategy and leading through others.
- A strong track record of leading and improving student support, welfare, or learner services within education or a comparable complex organisation.
- Demonstrable experience of strategic planning, service transformation and performance management.
- Strong financial acumen, with experience of managing budgets, bursaries or funding streams and using data to inform decision-making.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, including experience of working across organisational boundaries and with external partners.
- In-depth understanding of learner finance, bursaries and financial support systems, including relevant statutory guidance.
Most importantly, you will be committed to delivering inclusive, high-impact services and making a meaningful difference to student outcomes.
