About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate, confident and experienced Senior Residential Support Worker / Team Leader to join our growing residential children’s service. You will play a key frontline role in supporting children and young people to thrive, heal, and achieve positive outcomes in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will lead shifts, guide staff, model excellent practice, and ensure every child receives safe, nurturing, trauma-informed care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead shifts effectively, ensuring safe staffing and high-quality practice.
- Provide direct support to children & young people in line with individual care plans, placement plans and risk assessments.
- Mentor, supervise and guide Support Workers day-to-day.
- Promote a warm, stable, therapeutic environment where children feel safe, valued, and listened to.
- Support children with their emotional, social, educational and health needs.
- Manage incidents, safeguarding concerns and behaviour support using trauma-informed approaches.
- Record accurate, timely reports, logs, and updates on internal systems.
- Work closely with the Home Manager, external professionals and the wider team to deliver consistent care.
- Contribute to Ofsted inspections and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience working in a Children’s Residential Care setting.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete).
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, trauma-informed care and behaviour support.
- Ability to lead shifts confidently and supervise junior staff.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Drivers preferred (not essential).
- Must be willing to work rota shifts, including sleep-ins, evenings and weekends.
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
