Summary
Looking for flexible work where you can genuinely brighten someone's day?
Viva Assist is looking for warm, reliable self-employed companions (“Day Brighteners”) to spend time with older people in the local community. If you enjoy conversation, getting out and about and making a real difference, this could be the perfect opportunity.
- Flexible sessions you choose based on your availability
- Regular weekly client visits available
- Enhanced weekend rate
Weekend availability is particularly valued by our clients.
Rates
- Weekdays (Mon to Fri): £13.50 per hour
- Weekends (Sat and Sun): £20.25 per hour (enhanced weekend rate)
- Visit Based Pay: You are paid for the duration of each visit but not the time spent travelling between them. Many of our contractors choose to schedule them around personal errands or social visits, to make it work well for them
- Mileage and Expenses: If you are using your vehicle to take a client out or run errands for them during their allotted visit time, we pay a rate of 55p per mile
- Travel to Visits: There is no mileage paid for travel to and from allotted visits unless they are outside our core area (such as Tarporley, Broughton or Ellesmere Port) where a fixed fee is provided
Job Description
We are looking for warm, caring, kind-hearted people to join our small friendly network of self-employed Day Brighteners.
Providing companionship for older people in the local community, our Day Brighteners spread kindness, lift spirits and enrich our clients' day to day lives, helping them to live independently at home.
Often the most important part of the visit is simply spending time together, sharing conversation and helping someone feel valued and connected.
Please note: Due to the location of some of our clients, a full driving licence is required for this opportunity. As this is a self-employed role, you will also need an Enhanced DBS for the adult workforce and professional insurance. We can provide guidance on how to arrange these if you do not already have them.
What do Day Brighteners do?
Viva Assist offers a range of services such as:
- Accompanying people to appointments (e.g. hairdressing, dental, hospital, meeting friends)
- Enjoying trips out (e.g. shopping, cinema, walks, activity classes and any other activities you come up with together!)
- Providing respite companionship to give family carers a break (companionship only - no medical or intimate care)
Availability
We offer client sessions across the week. You choose which sessions you accept based on your availability. We have regular weekend requests and welcome people who are available on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as some weekdays.
We currently have around 15 hours per week of recurring sessions available for the right person. Additional sessions may be offered from time to time and you can choose whether to accept them.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone who is:
- Warm, enthusiastic, reliable, friendly and able to build rapport with older adults
- Full driving licence and access to a car (some clients are not on public transport routes)
- Comfortable working independently in the community
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) and willingness to follow safeguarding and confidentiality requirements
- Looking to make a real difference and brighten clients' days
Is this role right for you?
This opportunity tends to suit people who:
- Enjoy conversation and spending time with older people
- Are looking for flexible, meaningful work rather than a traditional employed role
- Are comfortable working on a self-employed basis
- Have other commitments (for example family, part-time work or retirement) and enjoy a few regular sessions each week
We can be flexible to fit around your other weekly commitments making this a great opportunity for parents, grandparents and down-sizers who enjoy building regular relationships with the same clients each week.
Working with Viva Assist
- Self-employed basis: This is a self-employed contractor opportunity. You will be responsible for invoicing Viva Assist for completed sessions
- Tax and National Insurance: As a contractor, you are responsible for your own tax and National Insurance contributions
- Professional Insurance: You must hold or be willing to obtain appropriate insurance. We can provide guidance on the requirements and suggest a provider to keep your setup simple and straightforward
- Enhanced DBS Check (Adults): You must possess or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS for the adult workforce. We can provide guidance on the application process, but you will need to cover the DBS application fee and annual update service subscription cost
Contractors are free to accept or decline sessions based on their availability.
You are welcome to undertake other work alongside your Viva Assist sessions.
