Job Description
About Us:
P&G is the world’s largest consumer good company. It produces, markets, and sells branded, high-quality, daily-use, household and personal care products under household names like Aeriel, Fairy, Pampers, Gillette, Oral B and Pantene. Our Manchester Production Facility has been production P&G products for over 90 years and is the main supply point for Pampers for the UK and Norther Europe. It operates a 24/7 Make, Ship and Pack Operation and is a fast paced operation – Each production line can make up to 20 diapers every second!
The Technology is highly automated due to the high Quality/Safety demands and incredible speed and complexity of the equipment – requiring both mechanical and electrical skills to keep production running. Most of the roles are in production, but there are rotational opportunities in more specialist capability development with the increase in automation and digitisation of our systems.
As an apprentice there will be the opportunity to rotate to different departments as well as developing specific skills required – in particular Rockwell based Power and Control technology.
Job Purpose:
Working in partnership with Trafford College, we are offering a 3-year apprenticeship programme where you will achieve a L3 EMT qualification. You will gain engineering skills to the highest level following an established apprenticeship programme as you journey towards becoming one of our multi-skilled shift technicians.
Rotational assignments typically include our production lines, Rebuild and Ancillary departments (Utilities and Palletisation) where there are defined expectations of capability and learning to support both the business needs as well as the apprenticeship learning expectations.
Your Apprenticeship will require you to attend college to gain qualifications to match your job role and during the college holidays, you will be required to attend site to apply what you have been learning at college, into practice. (prior attainment will be taken into consideration when planning your college training)
Apprentices will be working on site alongside experienced engineers who will support and mentor you, building capability and problem-solving techniques to confidently evaluate and implement solutions, attending college one day per week. They are often given responsibilities of owning some of our equipment and systems at an early stage – we expect continual improvement and learning.
During the apprenticeship will see you work across a day shift pattern (typically Monday-Friday 0700-1500), but depending on business requirements, it may be required to go onto a shift pattern to provide better continuity of training – this would mean working 12.5 hours shifts including nights and weekends – Shift pay would be included as part of the renumeration package.
Once you have completed your apprenticeship, you will become an integral part of the operating teams – most likely in production, but potentially in some of our ancillary departments. The apprenticeship scheme is intended to be the main source of recruitment into the site and so expect accelerated career growth and contribution vs other external sources.
Responsibilities:
Being part of a skilled and experienced team – contributing to the business from day 1.
Working with mechanical and electrical equipment as well as automated control systems, carry out planned and preventative maintenance, undertake fault finding and diagnosis.
Championing continuous improvement through involvement in our Integrated Work System Programme developing Manufacturing Excellence and individual capability to eliminate losses

To ensure specific maintenance methods and procedures are followed whilst minimising down time during training.
To achieve a competent level of understanding in the use of plant and equipment as required by the department you are associated with.
To ensure the appropriate problem-solving techniques are used to reach the end goal. All techniques should use the appropriate plans, drawings and technical data or the formulation of such.
