Maintenance Operative (Night Shift)
Location: Alfreton Recycling Centre
Hours: 11:00pm – 6:00am

Join Our Team
We are looking for a reliable and skilled Maintenance Operative to join our night shift team at our busy recycling facility. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient working environment while carrying out a wide range of maintenance tasks across the site.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient working environment across the recycling facility and external areas.
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues to minimise downtime and operational disruption.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and routine inspections.
- Undertake mechanical repairs, refurbishments, and general maintenance of company assets.
- Replace worn components and perform repairs to ensure equipment reliability.
- Carry out basic plumbing tasks, including repairing leaks, replacing fittings, and clearing blocked drains.
- Complete joinery and carpentry work, including repairs, installations, and adjustments.
- Carry out painting and decorating to maintain the appearance of the facility.
- Maintain external areas through grounds maintenance, landscaping, and general site upkeep.
- Assist with the installation, movement, and setup of machinery, equipment, and fixtures.
- Identify maintenance issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Complete and maintain accurate records of daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and safety inspections.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company health and safety procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a proactive maintenance culture.
- Develop skills across multiple maintenance disciplines to support a flexible maintenance function.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a general maintenance, facilities, or mechanical maintenance role.
- Good practical knowledge of mechanical systems, including assembly and dismantling of components.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical maintenance, and joinery.
- Experience carrying out preventative maintenance and general repairs.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage workload.
- Good understanding of health and safety within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Full UK driving licence (held for a minimum of two years).
- Flexibility to work weekends when required to support operational and maintenance needs.
Desirable
- Relevant trade qualifications.
- Experience working within a factory, recycling, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
