We are looking for an experienced and inclusive senior leader to join Product and Platforms as Deputy Director of Delivery for Demographics services.
This is a high-profile national role with responsibility for products and live services that support patients, are used in all GP practices and the wider health and care system. The portfolio includes the Personal Demographics Service, Register with a GP Surgery, patient registration services, patient list accuracy and services designed to improve the quality of patient contact information.
You will provide leadership across delivery, engineering and product management, ensuring that nationally important services are safe, secure, reliable and focused on user needs. You will lead a substantial multidisciplinary workforce comprising permanent colleagues and supplier teams and will work with senior stakeholders across NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care and the wider NHS.
This is an opportunity to shape services used across England, reduce administrative burden in general practice and help deliver better outcomes for patients.
You will:
Set the strategic direction and oversee the performance of the Demographics and Registering with a GP portfolio.
Lead the development and delivery of a sustainable roadmap that balances service growth, operational excellence, resilience and innovation.
Ensure live services operate safely, reliably and securely ensuring patient demographics data is well protected.
Lead multidisciplinary teams across delivery, engineering, product management and operations.
Build effective relationships with users, partners and senior stakeholders across health and care.
Develop robust business cases for portfolio transformation and investment.
Establish meaningful measures to demonstrate outcomes, benefits and value.
Work across Product and Platforms to promote consistent design, technology and engineering approaches.
Manage complex supplier relationships and contracts, ensuring delivery, compliance, transparency and value for money.
Provide visible, inclusive leadership across a portfolio delivered by approximately 200 permanent and supplier colleagues.
About you
You will be an experienced senior leader with a strong record of delivering live services, programmes or major projects in a large and complex organisation.
NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.
Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.
In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.
If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.
Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.
Please see the attached Job Description for further details on the role.

A record of achieving challenging objectives in complex environments.
