About the role:
It's an exciting time to join JCB's Propulsion Engineering team as we continue to develop the next generation of engine and aftertreatment technologies. We're looking for an Engineer or Senior Engineer – Performance, Calibration & Emissions to support the development, validation and release of engine and aftertreatment calibrations across both current and future propulsion programmes.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering performance, fuel efficiency, emissions compliance and durability targets while working with cutting-edge powertrain technologies. Depending on your experience and capability, we are open to appointing at either Engineer or Senior Engineer level.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you'll collaborate closely with controls, hardware, machine integration and development teams throughout the product lifecycle, helping to deliver innovative and robust propulsion solutions for JCB products worldwide.
What does this role involve day to day?
As part of the Performance & Emissions team, you'll be responsible for developing and validating calibration solutions that meet programme objectives and customer expectations. Your work will include:
- Developing and executing calibration test plans to support project delivery milestones.
- Carrying out calibration development on engine dynos, machine platforms and climatic test facilities.
- Developing, optimising and validating combustion, fuel injection, air handling and aftertreatment systems.
- Creating and maintaining calibration datasets covering performance, emissions, diagnostics and durability requirements.
- Applying Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques to improve development efficiency and generate robust calibration solutions.
- Supporting Model-Based Calibration (MBC) activities to reduce test effort and accelerate development programmes.
- Developing and validating soot accumulation, soot oxidation and DPF regeneration models.
- Supporting the development of emissions-critical systems to ensure compliance with global legislation.
- Utilising simulation and virtual development tools to support propulsion system optimisation and performance development.
- Investigating technical issues, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing effective solutions.
- Presenting technical findings and recommendations to stakeholders and project teams.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, engineering standards and development processes.
This will be suited to you if…
You'll have a strong engineering foundation and practical experience within engine development, testing or calibration. We're particularly interested in individuals who enjoy solving technical challenges and want to continue developing their expertise within a collaborative engineering environment.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in engine calibration, development testing or performance optimisation.
- Knowledge of combustion systems, fuel injection, air handling or aftertreatment technologies.
- Experience working with engine dynamometer testing and data analysis.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- The ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly.
- A passion for continuous improvement and technical development.
Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE), Model-Based Calibration (MBC), simulation tools, emissions systems or advanced data analysis techniques would be advantageous, but is not essential. We recognise that strong candidates may not have experience in every area and will provide training, mentoring and development opportunities to help you grow your capability.
