We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Residential Support Worker to join a solo provision home in Cambridgeshire. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting a young person with complex emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs within a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment.
In this role, you will lead by example—supporting colleagues, promoting best practice, and providing consistent, trauma-informed care that empowers the young person to feel safe, valued, and understood.
What you will be doingLeadership and Mentoring
- Lead, guide, and support Residential Support Workers to deliver consistent, high-quality care
- Provide supervision, practical guidance, and constructive feedback
- Role model professionalism, empathy, and emotional resilience
Therapeutic and Crisis Support
- Deliver trauma-informed care and effective crisis intervention
- Apply de-escalation techniques, grounding strategies, and the PACE model
- Support the young person with trauma, attachment needs, and behaviours that challenge
Daily Living and Development
- Encourage engagement in daily routines, education, and community activities
- Promote independence, confidence, and essential life skills
- Accompany the young person to appointments, education, and leisure activities
Safeguarding and Advocacy
- Ensure the young person’s safety and wellbeing at all times
- Actively advocate for their rights and best interests
- Maintain accurate records in line with Ofsted standards and Regulation 44
Positive Behaviour Support
- Apply the PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy)
- Promote positive behaviour strategies to support emotional development and self-regulation
Collaborative Working
- Work in partnership with social workers, CAMHS, education professionals, and other stakeholders
- Support the Registered Manager with audits, compliance, and quality assurance
Professional Development
- Engage in regular supervision and ongoing training
- Work flexibly on a rota, including sleep-ins, evenings, weekends, and on-call duties
About you
You are calm, resilient, and compassionate, with a genuine passion for supporting young people who require stability, patience, and understanding. You bring both confidence and empathy to your work, alongside the ability to lead and inspire others.
Essential requirements
- QCF Level 3 or 4 in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards Level 5)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting or similar
- Proven ability to lead, guide, and mentor staff
- Experience supporting individuals with challenging behaviour or mental health needs
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Flexibility to work a rota, including sleep-ins and on-call duties
- Enhanced DBS check
Desirable
- Experience in crisis intervention, secure care, youth work, social care, or mental health
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and attachment-related needs
