Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Orthopaedics Ward Nurse to join our healthcare team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care within the orthopaedic ward, supporting patients through their recovery and ensuring their comfort and safety. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic hospital environment, providing specialised nursing services to patients with musculoskeletal conditions. Responsibilities
· Manage rapid pre-operative assessments and preparation for elective orthopaedic surgery patients.
· Deliver skilled post-operative care including pain management, neurovascular observations, and wound care.
· Coordinate closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) — including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and consultants — to ensure timely, safe, and effective patient discharge.
· Prepare discharge documentation including TTOs (to take out medications), liaise with physiotherapy for mobilisation plans, and facilitate patient education.
· Monitor patient progress and escalate any clinical concerns promptly.
· Support enhanced recovery protocols and same-day discharge where appropriate.
Desirable Experience:
· Experience working within Enhanced Recovery Programmes (ERP).
· Ability to independently manage same-day discharge patients.
Person Specification: Ward Nurse
Essential:
· Registered with NMC (Part 1) as a nurse.
· Experience in orthopaedic or surgical ward nursing.
· Skilled in-patient assessment, pain management, wound care, and discharge coordination.
· Strong team player with excellent communication skills for effective MDT collaboration.
· Ability to manage fast-paced, high-volume patient flow.
Desirable:
· Experience in enhanced recovery pathways.
· Confident in managing same-day discharge autonomously.
Pay: £325.00 per day
