The Role
We have an excellent opportunity for a reliable and hardworking Warehouse Operative to join our Newcastle team.
Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor and Warehouse Manager, you will be responsible for picking, handling and cutting metal bars, sheets and plates for customer orders. You will also support the safe loading and unloading of vehicles and help maintain an organised, efficient and safe warehouse.
Full training will be provided on our products, equipment and working procedures. Machinery and lifting equipment must only be used once the appropriate training and authorisation have been completed.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
- Picking and checking metal products accurately against customer orders and picking documentation.
- Cutting metal bars, sheets and plates using band saws, plate saws and other approved machinery.
- Operating machinery and handling equipment safely and in accordance with training and safe working procedures.
- Loading and unloading materials safely and efficiently.
- Loading company vehicles accurately against the driver’s manifest.
- Checking product identification, quantities, dimensions and condition before dispatch.
- Storing materials safely and maintaining accurate stock locations.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping throughout the warehouse.
- Following all health and safety requirements, including PPE, manual handling and risk-control procedures.
- Reporting damaged materials, equipment faults, hazards, near misses and accidents promptly.
- Supporting stock checks, batch traceability and quality-control procedures.
- Working closely with warehouse colleagues, drivers, sales teams and other departments.
- Providing a courteous and helpful service to customers and suppliers collecting or returning materials.
- Carrying out other reasonable warehouse duties to support the needs of the business.

Desirable Experience
The following would be an advantage but is not essential:
- Previous warehouse, metal stockholding or materials-handling experience.
- Experience of picking, packing, loading or goods-in and goods-out operations.
- Experience using band saws, plate saws or similar cutting machinery.
- A recognised forklift truck qualification.
- Experience using warehouse or stock-management systems.
- Knowledge of quality-control or batch-traceability procedures.
- Basic mechanical knowledge.
Working Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 7:30am to 5:00pm
- Friday: 7:30am to 4:00pm
Additional hours and overtime may be available depending on business requirements. Overtime must be approved in advance.
Pay and Benefits
- Circa £28,000 per annum, depending on experience and hours worked.
- Approved overtime paid at time and a half.
- 4% employee and 4% employer matched contributory pension scheme.

Health and Safety
