Salary: LS07 £51105-£54198 per annum (pro-rata)

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, qualified and experienced environmental health professional to work in a forward-thinking service with a great reputation on a fixed term contract for 2 days per week providing an ideal opportunity to consolidate management experience and provide technical and operational leadership as part of the Environmental Health management team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to further their career, a secondment opportunity may be considered for those working in local government who are looking to gain further experience within a management role.
Within this role you will work closely with the Assistant Director for Public Protection and the other Principal Officer for Environmental Protection and Housing. You will be responsible for the management of a defined group of staffing resources and provide technical leadership across environmental protection and private sector housing areas. The current functions proposed to be covered by this role include:
- Industrial pollution control inc investigation of Statutory nuisance complaints
- Contaminated Land and air quality
- Private sector housing enforcement
In addition to the normal line management responsibilities, you will also have responsibilities for
performance management and reporting.
The post holder will also work closely with the Assistant Director for Public Protection to formulate the policy framework for environmental health. In addition you will have the opportunity to explore further training and development and attend the Council’s Leadership Forum where you will be able to contribute to the wider management and leadership of the Council.
The environmental health service covers a broad and challenging range of functions which have high expectations from elected members and residents therefore as an essential the post holder will have current or recent experience in one or more of the above functions.
We are looking for an individual with post qualification experience and a high level of knowledge of current environmental health legislation and practice, along with excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a small team of technical and environmental health officers.
