Overview
This position is part time do the restaurant only being open 3/4 nights a week. Salary is flexible and can reflect the hours and effort someone is willing to put in.
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our small team. The ideal candidate will possess a refined palate, excellent customer service skills, and a strong understanding of wine and beverage pairings. This role offers an opportunity to enhance guest experiences through expert wine recommendations and personalised service, contributing to the sophisticated atmosphere of our establishment. Previous experience in catering, serving, or hospitality environments is highly desirable, along with a genuine enthusiasm for food and drink.
We also welcome applicants with no experience - training and qualifications will be provided for the correct candidate.
Duties
- Curate and maintain an extensive wine list, ensuring variety and quality.
- Provide expert advice to guests on wine selections, pairings, and tasting notes.
- Serve wine and beverages in a professional and courteous manner, maintaining high standards of service.
- Assist with food preparation when necessary, supporting the kitchen team during busy periods.
- Ensure all serving areas adhere to food safety standards and organisational policies.
- Collaborate with the restaurant team to deliver seamless dining experiences.
- Keep abreast of new trends in wines, spirits, and hospitality practices to enhance guest offerings.
- Support event catering by providing specialised wine service for private functions or special occasions.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in fine dining restaurant service preferred.
- Strong knowledge or interest of wines, spirits, and food pairing principles.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in food handling prefered.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage guests professionally and courteously.
- Experience with food preparation or general restaurant operations is a plus.
- A personable attitude with a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in hospitality or sommelier training are preferred but not essential.
