Catering Assistant
Hours: 26 hours per week, 9am – 3:30pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (including daily 30 min unpaid lunch break)
Salary: £13 per hour
Contract: Fixed-Term contract – 22nd September to Friday 18th December 2026[ED1]
Reporting to: Catering Manager
Annual Leave: 25 days per annum (pro rata for part time employees)
Start Date: Tuesday 22nd September, or close
Closing Date: Sunday 13th September (by end of day, 11:59pm)
Location: The National Holocaust Centre and Museum, Acre Edge Road, Laxton, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG22 0PA

Who are we?
The National Holocaust Museum sits between Boughton, Ollerton and the village of Laxton. We are a museum open 6 days a week to members of the public and to school groups. Visitors learn about the events of the Holocaust for a contemporary purpose; to enhance critical thinking in this age of social media and fake news. Visitors can explore our two museum exhibitions and beautiful memorial gardens. The coffeeshop is important to us, offering visitors a warm welcome and a place for people to relax and reflect.
Main responsibilities:
We are looking for a Catering Assistant to help us throughout Autumn. The role includes:
· Preparation of homemade soup and sandwiches as per our menu
· Preparation of food in line with all legal dietary and allergen requirements
· Securing a food hygiene certificate at minimum level 1 Food Safety and Hygiene for Catering (or similar).
· Ensuring Health & Safety regulations, including food hygiene, allergens and Environmental Health legislation are adhered to.
· Daily duties will include providing friendly and high-quality customer service to visitors, food preparation, and maintaining a clean and tidy coffeeshop.
· Till operation will include serving customers of the coffeeshop and completing transactions that may also include merchandise and museum admissions.
· Accurately communicating any stock needs to the Catering Manager to inform ordering with suppliers.
· Restocking displays ensuring stock is presented in a clean and tidy manner.
· Ensuring safe custody of cash float and takings and processing daily takings.
· Someone outgoing and friendly who is willing to talk to visitors and make them feel welcome. Ensuring the visitor experience is maintained to a high standard.
· Willingness to work with our volunteers to grow the team and develop volunteers’ experience.
· Willingness to learn about the visitor offer of the Museum so you can help direct visitors and discuss the day’s activities with them.
· Previous experience in a catering environment is preferred.
