Castle House Care Home in Torrington is a 26 bed residential care home situated in beautiful countryside and with local amenities close by. We are seeking a passionate and energetic Bank Cook to join our team to cover sickness & annual leave! You must have a variety of skills due to the needs of our residents. You will be cooking breakfasts and lunches along with roast dinners and making deserts and cakes. Ordering of vegetables and meat (if required) maintaining cleaning rotas for yourself and kitchen assistants making sure all stock is labelled and rotated in line with procedures of a kitchen and to ensure all checks and documentation are completed daily. You must hold a NVQ level 2 or 3 food safety certificate and undergo all mandatory training provided by the company. Hours are 07.30 - 14.00 but will include weekends and to stay late on the odd occasion when a function is being held. Successful applicant will be required to provide an enhanced DBS disclosure - cost of which will be met by the employer
- Prepare and cook a variety of menu items with precision, consistency, and creativity, ensuring each dish meets quality standards
- Follow established recipes and food safety guidelines to maintain cleanliness and proper handling of ingredients
- Assist with meal preparation
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen workspace, adhering to health regulations at all times
- Support the team during busy service hours by efficiently serving food
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and communicate needs for restocking to ensure smooth operations
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to develop new menu ideas and improve existing dishes
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking and kitchen roles
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, meal preparation, and food safety standards
- Prior experience in food service is highly preferred
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to coordinate effectively
- Basic understanding of serving procedures
Pay: £13.00 per hour
