Information Governance Officer
Starting salary between £34581 and £41673 per annum (plus cost of living)
Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn
We have an exciting opportunity for an Information Governance Officer to join our Corporate Governance team. Information and data are at the heart of everything we do, and this role plays a vital part in helping the Council deliver trusted, transparent and accountable services to our communities.
Working closely with the Data Protection Officer and colleagues across the organisation, you will help ensure the Council meets its statutory obligations under UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information legislation and wider information governance requirements, while supporting the safe and effective use of information to improve services. You will help safeguard information, support compliance and provide expert advice across the organisation.
In this varied role, you will Lead and coordinate responses to Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations and Subject Access Requests. Provide timely and pragmatic information governance advice to managers and services across the Council. Investigate and manage data protection incidents and support organisational learning from breaches and near misses., support the development, review and implementation of information governance policies and procedures, and work with colleagues across the Council to embed best practice. Support the delivery of training, awareness activities and advice to help embed a positive information governance culture. Contribute to audits, compliance monitoring and reporting activities.
You will also help shape our approach to emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, records management and information sharing, ensuring we continue to deliver trusted and effective public services.
You will be a highly organised and proactive professional with experience in information governance, data protection or a related field. You will have a sound understanding of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information legislation and associated information governance principles. You will be confident interpreting legislation, providing practical advice to a wide range of stakeholders and managing competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent communication skills, sound judgement and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential, along with experience of handling sensitive and confidential information.
