About the role
Willows is a busy, well-established café and restaurant in Perth city centre, serving breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and homemade cakes.
We are looking for a reliable Kitchen Porter to help keep our kitchen clean, organised and running smoothly.
This is a practical, physical role and an important part of the kitchen team. You will be washing dishes and equipment, cleaning kitchen areas, dealing with waste and helping with deliveries and basic food preparation.
You do not need previous kitchen experience—we can teach you the job. What matters most is that you turn up on time, work at a good pace and, once trained, can see what needs doing without being continually reminded.
What you’ll be doing
- Washing and putting away dishes, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment
- Keeping floors, workstations, storage areas and equipment clean and hygienic
- Emptying bins and managing kitchen waste and recycling
- Keeping the wash-up area organised during busy services
- Receiving deliveries, putting stock away and following stock-rotation procedures
- Assisting with straightforward food preparation when required
- Using cleaning products and equipment safely
- Moving between tasks as the kitchen’s priorities change
- Supporting chefs and other team members during busy periods
- Completing routine cleaning and closing duties properly
What we’re looking for
Experience is helpful but not essential. We are more interested in finding someone who:
- Has dependable attendance and arrives ready to work at the agreed starting time
- Works quickly while still doing the job properly
- Can manage several practical tasks without becoming overwhelmed
- Notices jobs that need doing and takes the initiative to deal with them
- Listens to instructions and remembers established routines
- Communicates clearly and works well with the rest of the team
- Takes pride in keeping their work area clean and organised
- Is comfortable spending most of the shift on their feet and safely moving trays, tubs, boxes and kitchen equipment
The reality of the job
This is a busy kitchen role involving repetitive washing, cleaning and physical work. It will suit someone who enjoys staying active and takes satisfaction from keeping things organised and helping a team work well.
Reliability and timekeeping are essential. The rest of the kitchen depends on this position being covered from the beginning of every scheduled shift.

Pay
Basic pay is the applicable National Minimum Wage for your age, paid before and separately from tips.
Current basic hourly rates are:
- Ages 16–17: £8.00
- Ages 18–20: £10.85
- Ages 21 and over: £12.71
