The Opportunity
Our client, a leading Tier 1 mechanical services contractor, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead a AUD 100M mechanical services package on a hyperscale data centre development. You'll be involved from pre-construction and design development through procurement, construction, commissioning and final handover, taking full ownership of programme, commercial performance and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage from pre-construction to shape project delivery strategy, methodology and requirements.
- Review mechanical designs, specifications and documentation, identifying coordination issues, project risks, constructability improvements and design gaps.
- Work closely with the client, consultants, design teams and other project stakeholders through design development and sign off.
- Lead procurement across the mechanical package including major plant, materials, labour/subcontractors.
- Develop and manage procurement schedules aligned with the master programme, ensuring long lead equipment and critical materials are secured in line with project requirements.
- Take overall responsibility for delivery of the mechanical package, leading project engineering, site and delivery teams.
- Manage interfaces between mechanical works and other trades, contractors and project stakeholders, ensuring effective coordination throughout construction.
- Ensure the mechanical works are delivered safely, to specification, programme, quality and project requirements.
- Take commercial ownership of the mechanical package, including budgets, cost control, variations, subcontractor accounts and financial reporting.
- Monitor project performance against budget and programme, identifying and managing commercial and delivery exposure.
- Lead the mechanical package through commissioning to L3 commissioning, ensuring systems are ready for subsequent project stages and client acceptance.
- Coordinate commissioning activities with the wider project team, specialist commissioning teams and relevant stakeholders.
- Drive completion, defects resolution, testing, documentation, close out and final handover of the mechanical package.
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience delivering large scale mechanical services projects
- Strong commercial and project management capability from pre-construction through to handover
- Solid grounding in managing mechanical design, procurement, construction and commissioning
- Proven ability to lead large project teams
- Excellent client facing and stakeholder communication skills
Sector background: Data centre experience is highly desirable. Candidates from other mission critical or highly controlled environments such as pharmaceutical/life sciences, cleanrooms, healthcare or similar critical infrastructure are also encouraged to apply, provided they bring experience delivering complex, large scale mechanical projects.
Pay: £120,000.00-£130,000.00 per year
